Chix Finish Top of Div 1!!!

Congratulations to the Tornados Ladies team who finished top of their league with a fine 3-2 victory over Dutch Mex.

They started brightly in the scorching heat and went in at half time 2-0 up. The first goal came from a screeching reverse stick hit into the top corner from player-of-the-match Micha Weiss - certain to be the goal of the tournament. This was followed by an exquisite tap-in from Abi Cheadle whose well-timed run met perfectly with Micha's incisive pass through the Dutch defence.

The second half started the same way and Tornados were soon 3-0 up thanks to another solo effort from Micha, whose powerful partnership with Laura Schmidt seemed almost telepathic at times. The right-side partnership of Meagan and Rosie is also starting to pay dividends and threatened throughout.

Then the effect of 3 games in 5 days (and those against the 2nd, 3rd and 4th placed teams), combined with the searing heat, started to take its toll. The Dutch fought back strongly and had soon pegged Tornados back to 3-2.

At this point the Tornados' magnificent team spirit carried the game. Marshalled, as ever, by the outstanding Mel Mikaere from midfield, the tightest defence in the league held firm. Pei Ling, Cynthia, Tara and TJ threw in tackle after tackle to keep the Dutch at bay and ensure that the Tornados finished the winners.

Tornados will most likely play SRC A or Buccaneers in the semi final on 1st July at 8pm, Delta, although they could still find themselves with Dutch opposition depending on the results of remaining matches.

Ladies Div 1 League Table

Chix beat Dutch L in 6 Goal Thriller

The Tornados Ladies moved to within a hair's breath of the Division 1 title with a 4-2 win over fellow contenders Dutch Lex.

Tornados started aggressively but the Dutch scored a goal on the break to take the lead after just 5 minutes. Tornados then struggled to regain their rhythm and found themselves 2-0 down with just 10 minutes on the clock.

Then began a fightback that produced the most exciting game of the season. Galvanised by Mel Mikaere's leadership from the midfield, and spurred on by a raucous crowd, the Tornados reasserted themselves in dramatic fashion. Laura Schmidt pulled one back to make it 2-1 as the teams went into the break.

The second half took up where the first half finished, with Louise Hewlett looking particularly impressive on the left side of midfield. Tornados were soon level thanks to a goal from the ever reliable Bridget Gray. The Dutch continued to provide tough competition, however, forcing Kirsten Searl to make a crucial reaction save with her pads to keep the score level.

From that point on, however, it was one-way traffic. New starlet Micha Weiss put the Tornados into the lead and, as the Dutch heads dipped and their stamina waned, Rosie Clarke sealed the game with a goal that was a just reward for her afternoon of non-stop running and commitment.

The Tornados now go into their last game of the season knowing that a draw will see them confirmed Division 1 champions.

Ladies Cruise to Semi Finals

The Tornados became the first team to qualify for the Semi Finals with a 6-1 demolition of fellow title contenders Buccaneers.

Gemma Thomas opened the scoring with a well worked field goal before going on to score a further 3 goals that put her in good stead to be the league's top scorer. Micha Weiss, on her debut, put in a noteworthy performance to provide the other 2 goals and looked good for a hat-trick had she been given more time on the pitch.

It wasn't all plain sailing, however. At half time and 4-0 down, Buccaneers rolled the dice and switched to a kicking-back. This seemed to unsettled the Tornados and Dawn de Foe managed to keep them at bay for 20 minutes before Thomas and Weiss found their rhythm again.

Buccaneers seemed understrength throughout, with only the bare 11 players available, and a goal from Vanessa Cheong with 5 minutes to go was scant consolation to a team that could well face Tornados again in the semi-finals.

Ladies Clash v Dutch M Postponed

The Ladies game against Dutch M was rained off yesterday, meaning that the top-of-table clash will have to be rescheduled sometime in the next 2 weeks if all games are to be cleared in time for the Grand Final on Saturday June 5th.

The next fixture is the rescheduled match against Buccaneers, who asked the game to be postponed as they were too scared to play earlier in the season and needed some time to compose themselves.

Ladies win 2-0 vs NYP

Latest update from Mucha

The Ladies won their encounter against NYP and sealed a 2-0 victory with 2 goals scored in the 2nd half. Not their best game of the season but still a win and only the points matters.
Like the great Hockey guru always said : "Whatever the way you score or the style you are playing if the win is yours you accomplished your duty."

They are now in their last 3 remaining games of the season facing tough opponents : The Dutchies (2 times Team L and Team M) and Buccaneers all this within less than 10 days. All these teams are strong contenders for the title and a minimum of 2 win will insure the League Title will make his way to the Club house at Hockey Village.

It's time for the Tornados Supporters army to make their way to the pitch and support our ladies.

See you all for their last games and we believe they can bring the title home being title-less in 2009 for THC after the Mens 1st XI sealed the Div 1 league title in 2008.

Lets make this season 2010 a Tornados Hockey Club season to remember

See you all at the pitch

Another Win for Tornados Chicks

Although some people have been heard saying this was not our best game of the season, the Chicks did themselves proud against Vijayanti last Saturday. Getting close to our coach expectations with a 3-0 final score, we managed to stay on top of the league table with a goal difference reaching +19!

Gemma open the score by a shot deflected into the goal by a defender. Then, the unlucky Vijayanty girls, under their coach profuse swearing, deviated another shot directly between the keeper's feet. Their coach who could be heard screaming at them then turned silent, as if resigned, with 2 goals in against his team. Meanwhile, the Tornados relaxed and Meagan then scored on a penalty corner.

Tara was voted player of the game for an exemplary work in defense, saving us from a few dangerous outbreaks by the opposing team, and yours truly did 2 timely deflections. Another win and another clean sheet for the THC Chicks.

Beware of complacency however as our most dangerous and tough games have yet to come. Stay tuned ;-)
