THC - Roger's Update - 11th April 2017

What did the Easter Egg say to the boiling water?

What a weekend of hockey!!
Every team now (excluding the NWL 2) are a few games into the season and we can see that the ladders are showing what great hockey everyone is playing so far this year! Every team in LIGA and league is within the top half of their groups. A testament to the coaching and efforts of players throughout Tornados! With the Easter break upon us, have a great break and see you for more hockey next week!

RESULTS
There was so much hockey! I couldn't pop in to look over every game but I heard some great things from every team... Mens 1's took on two teams in their double header and even with a short bench at an early afternoon hour for their first game, managed to take away two wins with some great play from the lads. Mens 2's love a dramatic game! If they aren't winning by considerable margins then they are making up for it in nail biting close games. The highlight match against SCC was one for the fans.. high tempo, quick succession goals, fancy footwork and the odd penalty stroke had parents, friends and team mates on thier feet to the very end in a high scoring win! Everyone loves a win against SCC. Well done guys.
Ladies 1's also faced a double header, against some classy opposition. SCC, who are so far undefeated, played a fantastic game utilising thier key central players to the detriment of the Tornados defence throughout the game. Stand out performances kept the ladies fighting to the very end with plenty learnt. The ladies took thier well dealt lessons into thier second game Sunday night and they worked hard against a very tightly organised Jansenites team. Min (GK) kept the girls in the game with a standout perfomance in goal, which earnt her the MVP of the day. Unfortunately Jansenites out classed a hard working Tornados and the ladies walked away with no wins for the weekend.
Ladies 2's in only their second full game of the season had the task of playing Project Vaults. Project Vaults is a new team to the league competition this year, and as all new teams, have to be promoted from the lower leagues to play in the premier league. So for a star studded, 1st grade group of girls to come up against our ladies 2's it was impressive to see that the Tornados ladies took a step up in their skills to minimise the scoring in an excellent effort. Special mention goes to the enthusiastic efforts of Delphine who saved a dozen of goals as an unorthodox but effective step-in keeper.
In the LIGA competition the men are quickly gearing up for the up coming season. Mens 3's played in the hot heat of the day. It was an on and off game with some great play coming out of defence but, with moments where they had a loss of concentration they let Barkerites stay in the game coming away with a draw that didn't reflect their dominace in scoring opportunities. Mens 4's came away with their second win of their season in a close competition of social LIGA. In lieu of a goal keeper, fancy feet Nathan played a great game as a kicking back keeping the guys in the game with some excellent saves. Fantastic hockey from all the lads.

RESULTS
In a 'mens only' weekend, we nearly had a clean sweep across the tables. Mens 1's got thier rhythm against CSC in a convincing win. An unfortunately misinterpreted thumbs up from Gus had him and everyone else seeing red in a bizarre match ban. The mens 2s who are seemingly enjoying thier big wins this season saw off SRC with D Hogg ensuring a clean sheet in goal. The mens 3's also had a clean sheet, thanks to some amazingly athletic defensive tackles against a very young and fast Buccaneers team. The lads earnt a strong 2-0 win. The mens 4s got one on the board but were unable to keep AJ out and conceded 3 to 1 on the Sunday at Delta.

LEAGUE
Mens:
Mens 1's vs CSC WIN 6-1
Mens 2's vs SRC WIN 9-0
LIGA
Mens 3s vs Buccaneers WIN 2-0
Mens 4s vs AJ Alumni LOSS 1-3
