Tornados Hockey Club

Ai Ai Ai, caramba! Super Sabado hit sengkang this Saturday as the ladies Bs and Cs hosted a Mexican themed Saturday hockey special; complete with mexican moustaches (thank you, Lucy!), salsa soundtrack, tortilla beer snacks, and precautionary pinata (thank you, Family Beasley!). The fun bus saw a whole bunch of bus virgins take the stage, owning their debut performances, with particular highlights from the Irish contingent! Oh, and the hockey was good too. The Bs came from 1-0 down at half time with a positive performance (running their non-existent tits off - thanks for the pep talk, coach B) to end up 3-1 winners against SCC, while Cs played their match of the season but unfortunately not quite securing the victory against Crescent.

THC - Tornados Hockey Club - Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th May 2014 - Match Reports

Tornados Hockey Club

BIG hockey weekend, with all teams scheduled to play. Unfortunately the weather blighted the Women As and Liga Cs plans for world domination, with lightning postponing both matches. Liga D played a stormer and beat Jansenites 5 - 0. The match also saw the return of Jono, playing in goal, after a period in hospital. Welcome back Jono, good to see you out and about. Men B's run of luck ended, in Bart's last match for Tornados this league, as they lost 0-2 to ORA; playing better in the second half but missing some chances to equalise the game. Men A were the wrong side of a 3-0 scoreline against the Dutch. Tequila shots apparently helped soothe the pain later. Sunday was ladies day. Women B were first up, playing the best match of their season to take home a 1-0 victory over Theresians. Women C were faced with the moth Armageddon and an always tough NYP, unfortunately the forces of evil won this round.

Match Reports & Weekly Update

Lizzie Morris

On the Pitch

We have been playing League since March and Liga since Feb. Some weekends the club has fielded 7 teams (4 mens and 3 ladies), a record for the club. Results have been mixed for all teams and we have had some close, high quality matches. Most of the league teams are about half way through their matches so still lots to play for. Check out your teams league standings at- http://groupspaces.com/TornadosHockeyClub/

Some teams have struggled to field a full squad at times, and the men's Bs have managed to win two games with only 10 men (including one without a keeper). The ladies' Cs; a new team, with players new to hockey, have had tough opposition, sometimes without a full squad or GK but have continued to play with real courage and have a great attitude.

Match Reports: Check out the blog match reports on www.tornadoshockey.org.sg. Make sure your team submits one each week. See Lizzie if you need help.

Man of the Match: Winners will be given a Boomerang voucher. Captains contact Suz to get your team's quota.

Training: A temporary change of location from Delta to Sengkang has been frustrating. It is more hassle to get to and we have seen a drop off in attendance. However the pitch is better at Sengkang and the coaching brilliant! We are soon back at Delta - Men in June and Ladies in July. Be assured if we can get to Delta sooner, we will.

Looking Forward:  More hockey for all teams

The men's and ladies 1 and 2 leagues continue to mid-July, Liga finishes in June.

The men's leagues 3, 4 and 5 start in August and the Ladies Liga is expected to start August/ September. We are looking to organise a friendly league for division 1 and 2 men's teams from August - so we all get year round hockey if we want it.

Training continues all year. Keep an eye out for the weekly update and teamsnap for changes to location or day.

Off the Pitch

Socials

The social side at Tornados is very important too. This is evident by the number of socials where members organise an activity and invite all club members, whether it's a BBQ housewarming, leaving drinks, birthday karaoke etc…This really reflects the spirit of the club and builds even greater team spirit. Make sure you join our Facebook group if you want to know what is going on socially in the club.cebook - https://www.facebook.com/groups/TornadosHockeyClub

We have had several club run socials so far this year including a Sausage Fest at the Boomerang and the SCC Sixes, along with many pitch side socials. Some teams have held team socials - keep doing these. If your team wants to organise a team social at Boomerang contact Suz to see what she can do to help.

More of the above is planned and "other" partying has been dreamt up by Team Booze (Boobs & Suz).

Looking Forward :Dates for your diary

We are planning 2 socials a month; one mid-week and one at the weekend, they will mostly be at Boomerang on Boat Quay.

Playing Kit

There have been issues with the orders of playing kit (shirts etc) this year with the consequence being that the first order will be delivered at the end of June. There was an update sent out last week, any queries please contact Patrick.

The new sponsorship deals are for 3 years and so we will be keeping the same kit for at least 3 years and we expect everyone to be playing in the new style kit by next season.

For those who have not yet ordered please do so ASAP.

See online form:

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1hnXo-5EQyxme57YsSwvcdkuc5Yf-j9fc6sAaNcmb-Kg/viewform to order.

And payment link: http://groupspaces.com/TornadosHockeyClub/public/pay/bill/8807/2014-tornados-game-kit-fee/ to pay.

Hockey Equipment

All teams have been issued with their own set of balls, bibs, cones, face masks, a first aid kit and Cool Box (Esky). We will have spent $6000 on equipment this year a big club investment. The captains and team are responsible for this equipment and its replacement; other than for wear and tear. Can all members make sure we don't leave Tornados equipment at pitches, bars, taxis, etc.  If you find another team's equipment at the pitch (or in a bar/taxi) please let Patrick know and he'll help return it to its rightful owner.

Other club matters

Finance: We are looking financially stable this year thanks to the close scrutiny of Roch and the excellent sponsorship deals we have. This will only continue if everyone pays their membership and we don't lose equipment.

Membership: At last count we are slightly up on last years numbers but we would really like more members so please spread the word about Tornados and encourage people to join.

Website: We need help with our website. It currently has minimal information and is not very enticing to prospective new members or useful to existing members. If any one has expertise and the time to help get the current website usable please contact Boobs. We are also looking at alternative websites so any views and ideas- contact Boobs.

We want you help: If you want to get more actively involved with the club; coaching, managing a team, helping with socials, writing a newsletter or anything else please contact anyone on the committee. We are all busy people so any offer of help will be appreciated and taken up.

We want your views: If there are any issues/ ideas you want to raise with the committee please contact Sophie or me. These can be submitted in writing or if you want to discuss them at the committee meeting in person that is also good.

Thank you!

Tornados is a fantastic club due to all of you! Thank you for being a part of Tornados and supporting all that we strive to achieve. Look forward to seeing you on the pitch, cheering on one of our teams or at a Club Social, sometime soon

Jacque

THC - Tornados Kit/Uniform Update

E-mail displayed incorrectly? Read it in your browser

Tornados Hockey Club

Good evening Tornados!

A quick update on the delivery of the fantastic new Tornados match kit/uniform that I know you're all desperate to show off to your friends and colleagues…

There have been a lot of back-and-forths with the supplier and we can now confirm the delivery is expected by the end of June. This is later than we all anticipated when we placed our orders in March and thank you so much for your patience!

The kits will no doubt look amazing (and not just because of the ripped bods wearing them) and we're going to celebrate their arrival with a social in June where we'll play the Tornados special edition of Where's Wally (or Where's Waldo for Suz).

Remember that even though they've arrived a little later in the season than we hoped, we're going to be wearing this kit for at least the next three years and you get to keep them forever. That's right: for the rest of your life you can squeeze into your Tornados singlet and relive those Pure Blonde fuelled nights at Boat Quay, surrounded by a team of sweaty, tired hockey players. Sigh.

And if you haven't ordered your kit yet, get to it! You can order here and then make your payment here. Please remember to do both as we can't place an order without payment.

Once we have enough people in the second run (we can send in batches of 10) then we'll lodge it with the manufacturers – anyone whose order is in the batch will be notified.

If you have any questions about the kit, or won't be in Singapore next year, please let me know (please hit 'Reply' to this email so I don't lose your question). Thanks again for your patience but it's totally going to be worth it when you see how hot you look in your new kit.

Good luck for the weekend's games!

Cheers

Paddy (on behalf of the Committee)

THC - Women A Match Report - Sunday 4th May 2014

E-mail displayed incorrectly? Read it in your browser

Tornados Hockey Club

We were pumped for our first win this season and highly appreciated
the late evening game giving us a nice break from the hot-sun-games.
Despite a good start and putting heaps of pressure on the dutch, their
tallness and reach when we had the ball paid off quicker than our
ambition... The shot an early goal with a short-corner which we could
not equalize with what felt like dozens of short corners on our side.
Only one of those short corners that we had found it's way into their
goal - it was a great rebound by our horse-shoe-shaped strikers :) All
in all was it a super strong game on a very high intensity with heaps
of shots on goal on both sides of the pitch. Our goalie Michelle had a
couple of amazing saves and was voted player of the match. The result
1:3 does not reflect the strong game we played but we all went home
with the feeling we played a great game and are improving our team
performance from game to game! Keep it up Tornados, this first win
will come shortly!
